When the sun is high in the sky
Whether you’re out hiking or cycling – there comes a point when you pause, sit down on a warm rock and let the sun’s rays wash over you.
UV radiation increases with altitude – so on the Arlberg, your skin is exposed to more intense sunlight than in the valley. This stimulates the body’s own production of vitamin D, which supports your bones, immune system and mood.
In these quiet moments, nature speaks in soft tones: the wind in the mountain pines, the distant sound of cowbells, perhaps the whiff of a marmot above the ridge or the fleeting shadow of a chamois amongst the rocks – little moments that you take home with you.
1. Bernhard`s Stall on Flühenweg path
On the Flühenweg path above the village centre, near Bernhard’s stable, the view opens up onto the mighty Omeshorn – a spot that’s just perfect for a break in the sunshine. Benches all round the hut invite you to linger: sit down, let the warm sun shine on your face and let your gaze wander all around – from the imposing Omeshorn, over the sun-drenched village in the valley, right across to the opposite side of the valley towards Warth – a panorama you’ll want to take your time to soak up.
2. Bürstegg
At an altitude of 1,716 metres, at the foot of the Karhorn, lies what was once the highest Walser settlement in Vorarlberg. amongst the old farmsteads, you can find a quiet spot in the sunshine, far away from the hustle and bustle – here, you are warmed not only by the light, but also by the feeling of pausing for a moment in a special place.
3. Oberlech
High above the valley, at 1,750 metres, Oberlech lies like a sun-drenched plateau – idyllic and peaceful. All along the paths, the distinctive red benches invite you to linger, and on the numerous sun terraces of the huts and hotels, you can enjoy the view at your leisure. Anyone who takes a seat here has the Rüfikopf and the Kriegerhorn right before their eyes, close enough to touch.
4. Lake Spullersee
Nestled amongst rugged peaks, Lake Spullersee lies like a mirror reflecting the sky. On its shores, you can enjoy the sun to the full – the turquoise water reflects the light, whilst all around the mountains glisten in the midday sun.
5. A break in the sun on the banks of the Lech
Right next to the footpath from Lech to Zug – or vice versa – there is a sun lounger on the banks of the Lech, offering views of the flowing river and the surrounding mountains. A peaceful spot for a break in the sun, before a short detour to the Kneipp facility halfway along the route refreshes your legs. If you like, you can plan your route to take you past the Lech forest swimming pool – a refreshing dip in the water is the perfect way to round off your break.
