Because it has always been clear that quality tourism and an intact habitat for the locals can only go hand in hand with comprehensive consideration of the natural conditions as well as care and protection of the environment. A plant sociological report commissioned by the Lech ski lifts showed that vegetation and wildlife are not harmed by early snow removal and that the uniform snow cover – on the contrary – provides protection for the meadows, which in summer reveal a species-rich variety of flowers.
On 12 May 1999 the ground-breaking ceremony took place and in October 1999 the first biomass boiler of the Lech biomass heating plant was put into operation. This concept convinced all along the line. This gradually led to the construction of further heating plants. The second heating plant was built in Zug in 2007, another in Oberlech in 2009 and the fourth in Lech Zürs in 2010. In 2010, the biomass heating plant in Lech was awarded the Vorarlberg Wood Construction Prize and clearly proves that architecture and design do not contradict efficiency and profitability.
Environmental protection - seal of quality
Environmental protection has been an integral part of the business policy of Lech ski lifts from the very beginning.
Because it has always been clear that quality tourism and an intact living environment for the locals can only go hand in hand with comprehensive consideration of the natural conditions as well as care and protection of the environment. A plant sociological report commissioned by the Lech ski lifts showed that early certification did not damage vegetation and wildlife and that the uniform snow cover – quite the opposite – provided protection for the meadows, which in summer reveal a rich variety of flowers.
A further step in e-mobility was taken in summer 2011 with the rental of e-bikes in Lech. The e-bikes can be rented at Sportalp Waldhart; and meanwhile more than 30 further e-bikes are owned by companies and private individuals in Lech.
In addition, an e-gas station for the Vlotte e-cars was built in summer 2012. Vlotte is a company of Vorarlberg Illwerke VKW, the province of Vorarlberg and the province of Austria, which promote and support the purchase of electric cars. More than 75 electric vehicles are currently on the roads in Vorarlberg, covering a total of 150,000 km in the first year.
Our spring water, especially that from the Schwarzbach spring in the Zugertal, has a number of special features. What others fill as mineral water comes from the tap in Lech. The nitrate content of Lech water is more than 20 times lower than the EU drinking water limit value of 25 mg/l. According to detailed investigations, the water of the Schwarzbach Spring also contains important minerals such as calcium, magnesium and sulphates in an ideal composition. But there are also many other facts that speak in favour of consciously using the precious spring water from Lech as drinking water thanks to its very high quality: It is an unmistakable part of our home in Lech.
Lech Zürs am Arlberg will continue to support sustainable energy generation and sustainable tourism in the future. This initial decision is based on the trend-setting idea that locals and guests can only feel at home and recharge their batteries in an intact natural environment. Therefore, all innovations and new offers are always based on the idea of sustainable development and the creation of compensatory measures to conserve resources.
