Where the first skis left their mark.
Zürs can justifiably be described as a powder snow paradise, where ski runs usually start right at the peaks in powder snow and terminate at the hotel doorstep.
Skiers in Zürs are always at the heart of the action. Not only is the region home to elegant hotels and gourmet restaurants, it also offers perfect snow conditions at Austria’s largest connected ski area – leading right to your front door. With all hotels offering “ski-in, ski-out”, meaning that guests can strap on their skis right in front of the hotel before heading out to the slopes and lifts, it’s clear why Zürs enjoys such a deserved reputation among winter sports fans.
History of a ski resort
The cradle of Alpine skiing
Zürs is one of the places where alpine skiing received its crucial early impetus. As early as 1906, Viktor Sohm held the first skiing course for locals here – one of the earliest documented skiing courses of all. This was followed in 1937 by the first T-bar lift of its kind in Austria, co-initiated by Sepp Bildstein. These pioneering achievements made Zürs one of the birthplaces of modern alpine skiing culture as we know it today.
The entire region has now established itself amongst the world’s elite winter sports destinations – 200 km of high-alpine deep-snow runs and 305 km of perfectly groomed ski runs speak for themselves. Just as do the lifts with heated seats and the 16 four- and five-star hotels and guesthouses.
As you make your final turns down into the valley, the time for indulgence begins. Whether in an excellent gourmet restaurant, a traditional parlour serving regional fare, a fine wine cellar or a trendy cocktail bar. What makes Zürs special? The blend of magnificent natural surroundings, exclusive service, comfortable hotels and the finest eateries.
