8 nature games along the trail

Playful hiking trail in Lech

Now it gets exciting: on the "playful hiking trail" between Oberlech and Petersboden, you can combine playing in nature, hiking, plenty of exercise, and extraordinary insights into the geologically unique gypsum holes.

The nature is the star

Eight nature games along the way invite you to experience the gypsum sinkhole nature reserve, which is unique in Europe. Around 1,000 sinkholes, the deepest crater 35 m deep and an unimaginable 220 million years old, are just a few of the amazing highlights of this tour. More than 35 species of orchids bloom here, and “our” marmots love the gypsum-rich soil for building their burrows. Protecting nature, experiencing nature, and getting up close and personal while hiking and playing is the order of the day here.

Our game ideas combine creativity and exercise, require no additional materials, and draw attention to our unique mountain and alpine landscape in Lech. Play with whatever you find along the way; the instructions are simple and make it easy for you to come up with your own game ideas. This makes hiking with the family varied and anything but boring.

How does it work?

Look for signs at the game points along the trail. Scan the QR code and follow the instructions. Of course, you can modify the nature games and adapt them to your ideas and the age of your child/children.

Why playing?

Playing is a wonderful way to become familiar with nature. Each station is an invitation to discover and play. Playing and hiking means having fun together, making discoveries, learning, and getting exercise. Along the way, distance becomes less important. The route becomes manageable for your children, and you will take away many ideas for your hikes here with us in Lech.

Lech am Arlberg is a member region of Austria's Hiking Villages Austria's Hiking Villages and we have been intensively involved with hiking, the magic of walking, and, of course, the protection of our landscapes for many years.

Information about the playful hiking trails:

  • Playful hiking is an initiative of Austria's Hiking Villages.
  • Only existing trails are used and played on; nothing new is built.
  • We want to move away from large-scale development and soil sealing, which is why we focus on very few play points and signage.
  • We play with what is available along the trail, with simple instructions.
  • You engage directly with the landscape; there is no “fuss” along the way.
  • The nature here in Lech is the star.
  • We are convinced that sometimes “less” (fewer instructions, less big, less loud) is exactly the right thing when we are out and about in nature with children and as a family.
  • Children are very creative when we give them space, and exercise in the great outdoors is very valuable for their development.
