Gypsum holes
The gypsum holes in Lech Zürs are fascinating, impressive funnel-shaped depressions – sinkholes that are up to 35 meters deep and have a diameter of up to 100 meters. These unique geological formations are the result of a natural process in which water dissolved the rock over thousands of years. Since 1988, this area has enjoyed the special protection of a nature reserve. It preserves a unique alpine landscape, is home to rare plant species such as orchids, and provides habitat for a diverse native wildlife. Visitors are welcome to discover this special natural environment on picturesque hiking trails.
