In the Light of a New Day

A writer on a quest for self-discovery. Deep in the fairy tale-like Bohemian forest, the fates of two brave women intertwine. When Elli Hajek retreats to a remote house to write, she recalls a figure her Czech grandmother once told her about: Viktorka, the young woman who was declared insane after a serious event and lived alone in the Bohemian forest. When Elli learns that Viktorka really existed, she travels to the country from which she herself fled as a child. Elli wants to learn more – but deep in the forest, among glowing ferns and rushing rivers, another task awaits her: before she uncovers the truth about Viktorka, Elli must face her own repressed history. "Perhaps the forest was not just a refuge. Perhaps it was a place where she could finally be free."

Jarka Kubsova was born in 1977 in the former Czechoslovakia and has lived in Germany since 1987. She has worked as a journalist, ghostwriter, and co-author of several successful non-fiction books.
