Lesung mit Birgit Birnbacher

07.12.2026
21:00 O'CLOCK

Birgit Birnbacher will read on Monday, December 7, 2026, at 9:00 PM in the Sonnenburg Library from her new novel "They Want to Tell Us." The reading is suitable for adults.

After "What We Live From," Bachmann Prize winner Birgit Birnbacher sensitively and literarily tells the story of dealing with neurodivergence in her new novel.

Oz is different; he has ADHD and struggles in school, but this time something really silly has happened to him. On his way home, he wishes for at least a small disaster to distract his mother from the letter from the teacher that he has to give her. When Oz comes home, Ann – also equipped with a fluttering nervous outfit – is not in the mood for celebrating report cards, but something has actually happened. Grandma Zilly, who lives in the mountains, is gone... Intensely, humorously, and with great empathy, Birgit Birnbacher tells of a mother’s love who fights with herself and against others to defend her child against external attributions – even if it ultimately is through storytelling itself. A novel about the opportunities that wild growth in thinking presents. Do those who cannot adapt perhaps actually have something to counter our overstimulated nature and environment?
