The Arlberg Trail - an alpine long-distance hike across five Arlberg villages

Lech Zürs am Arlberg, August 27, 2025 – The Arlberg Trail combines the most impressive scenery of the Arlberg with the thrill of a sporting challenge and the fascination of alpine long-distance hiking – one of the most popular trends in mountain tourism today.

The Arlberg Trail links the five Arlberg villages of Lech, Zürs, Stuben, St. Christoph, and St. Anton in a three-stage circular hike. Covering up to 43 kilometers of pure hiking trails, it leads through spectacular alpine landscapes, supported by modern cable cars and complemented by daily route options – with both the original sporting stage and a lighter alternative available.

The Appeal of Long-Distance Hiking

The Arlberg has long been synonymous with alpine pioneering spirit and breathtaking natural beauty. The Arlberg Trail showcases this world in a particularly impressive way: over three stages, hikers traverse internationally renowned destinations such as Lech, Zürs, Stuben, St. Christoph, and St. Anton – on foot, with the assistance of mountain lifts. More than 40 kilometers of trail and a total of 5,000 vertical meters in ascent and descent combine athletic challenge with pure alpine enjoyment.

What makes the Arlberg Trail unique is its combination of sporting ambition, premium infrastructure, convenient luggage transport, and flexible design. Starting this summer, hikers can choose on each stage between the demanding original route and a more moderate alternative – allowing the experience to be tailored to fitness level, weather conditions, or personal preference. This makes the long-distance hiking adventure at the Arlberg accessible to every level of ability. A guided Arlberg Trail package for 2026 is currently in development.

The landscape along the route highlights the full fascination of alpine long-distance hiking: dramatic rock formations alternate with blooming alpine meadows, tranquil mountain lakes mirror the surrounding three-thousand-meter peaks, and each stage offers new panoramas – from the secluded Zürser Täli to the striking silhouettes of the Patteriol and Valluga

The three stages lead through the heart of the Arlberg region with remarkable variety:

  • Stage 1: From the Galzigbahn via the Kaltenberghütte to Stuben
  • Stage 2: From the Flexen Pass via the Seekopfbahn and the Zürser Täli to Lech
  • Stage 3: With the Trittkopfbahn to the Ulmer Hütte, then over the Galzig back to St. Anton

With the Arlberg Trail, summer in the Arlberg is defined in a fresh and modern way: as an invitation to combine the adventure of alpine long-distance hiking with the comfort of state-of-the-art cable cars, and to discover the legendary region in all its facets.
