Gypsum holes tour

Hike through the natural phenomenon of gypsum holes in Oberlech A fascinating insight into the Alpine natural world

Join us on a guided hike through the unique Gypsum holes nature reserve in Oberlech, a unique and protected natural gem. The gypsum holes are not only geologically impressive – with over 1,000 sinkholes, the area is one of the largest gypsum cave formations in Central Europe – but also an important habitat for a variety of alpine plant and animal species. Thirty-five different species of orchids can be found in this climatically unique area during the summer months.

Our hike takes you through an enchanting, almost moon-like landscape, where deep karst depressions, fragrant flower meadows and spectacular views of the Lech mountains alternate. You will learn exciting facts about the formation of this special landscape, its geological context and the delicate balance that characterises this protected area.
