Hike through the natural phenomenon of gypsum holes in Oberlech
A fascinating insight into the alpine natural world
Join us for a guided hike through the unique nature reserve Gypsum Holes in Oberlech, a unique and protected natural jewel. The gypsum holes are not only geologically impressive – with over 1,000 sinkholes, the area is one of the largest gypsum cave formations in Central Europe – but also a significant habitat for a variety of alpine plant and animal species. 35 different species of orchids can be found in this climatically unique area during the summer months.
Our hike will take you through a magical, almost lunar landscape, where deep karst depressions alternate with fragrant flower meadows and spectacular views of the Lech mountains. Along the way, you will learn fascinating facts about the formation of this particular landscape, its geological connections, and the sensitive balance that characterizes this protected area.
