On March 12, 2027, the Vorarlberg Symphony Orchestra will perform a concert in the Lechwelten under the direction of conductor Katharina Müllner.

About the Program
Richard Wagner's Siegfried Idyll is a tender birthday serenade for his wife Cosima on the occasion of her 33rd birthday in December 1870 – marking the birth of their son and heir Siegfried, affectionately called Fidi. The dedication reads: “Tribschener Idyll with Fidi bird song and orange sunrise” and premiered in the wide staircase of the villa by Lake Lucerne at the Vierwaldstättersee. Wagner artfully incorporated various leitmotifs from the opera Siegfried. The cheerfully free Idyll is considered one of his most beautiful orchestral compositions.
 
On the horn, the trademark of the opera Siegfried, Richard Strauss's father shone brilliantly. He was the most famous horn virtuoso of the 19th century, and the instrument became familiar to his son for that reason. The Bavarian composer wrote his 1st Horn Concerto early on. 60 years later, as a reminiscence, he produced the 2nd Horn Concerto, which premiered at the Salzburg Festival in 1943 with the Vienna Philharmonic under Karl Böhm. This exquisitely beautiful masterpiece is characterized by simple elegant grace as well as exuberant virtuosity and ranks among Strauss's most popular concertos.
 
The fairy-tale medieval legend of the love of knight Raimund for the beautiful mermaid Melusine was transformed by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy into a touching concert overture, a atmospheric tone picture of intimate poetry. The Fair Melusine was composed in 1833/34, prompted by a visit to the opera, which led him to focus on this subject. “It sounds heavenly, sweet, and passionate,” wrote a friend after the premiere in London. Musically contrasted by strong dramatic outbursts, delicate wavering waves escort one into an enchanting underwater world to which Melusine must ultimately return, inspiring Wagner in the Rheingold prelude.
 
W. A. Mozart's festive and joyful Symphony in C major from 1780 was the last he composed as a court musician in his birthplace Salzburg. Majestic and solemn, the first movement sounds with fanfares and march rhythms, but there are also quiet and contemplative moments, akin to light and shadow. The ensuing calm surprises with melodic strength and transforms into an exhilarating Southern Italian tarantella in the finale.
