Trail running on the Arlberg. Hardly any other region has so many possibilities for mountain runners and trail runners. Whether a gentle training round or a demanding mountain run, Lech am Arlberg is a paradise for trail runners. The altitude is the rest, because the altitude of Lech is considered ideal to prepare for competitions. And every two years trail runners from all over the world come to Lech as part of the GoreTex Transalpine Run, because Lech am Arlberg is the destination of the first stage, which leads from Oberstdorf to the Arlberg. The next day we continue to St. Anton.
Official Statement by the OrganizerAugust 2019 more than 300 teams of two will once again line up for an eight-day adventure across the Alps on foot. Just like in the first year, 2005, the gun will go in Oberstdorf and see the teams take on the legendary Western Route. After eight punishing days of running the athletes will arrive on 7 September in the wintersports resort of Sulden/Ortler in Italy. New for 2019 is the Mountain Sprint in Samnaun. RUN2 has also established itself as a core part of the TRANSALPINE RUN and will this year once again see 150 teams complete the first two stages – the first step on the road to one day crossing the Alps on foot.
From Oberstdorf the course leads over the border to Austria and into the Lechtal Alps, stopping in the villages of Lech and St. Anton am Arlberg. After passing Landeck the runners cross over into Switzerland and enter the canton of Graubünden. The runners will spend two days in Samnaun before the Mountain Sprint up to Alp Trida marks the start of the second half of the race. Stage six leads to Scuol. Stage eight takes runners over the Italian border to Prad/Prato at the foot of the legendary Stelvio pass. Last but not least, the eighth and final stage concludes in Sulden/Solda in the shadow of the mighty Ortler mountain.
