It is scarcely possible to imagine that the now world-famous Zürs am Arlberg (1,720 m) was once an alpine settlement only inhabited in summer. Now there are elegant hotels here deep powder snow runs lead several kilometres down from the top of the mountain right into the centre of the village. Even early on, the people of Zürs felt themselves committed to skiing and so the first skiing course for locals was held by Viktor Sohm in 1906. Then, in 1937, the first drag lift in Austria was built.
What more could a skier want?
Guaranteed snow is not an empty promise in Zürs am Arlberg, because the high peaks and the fantastic mountain landscape generate a build-up of cloud and thus ensure particularly heavy snowfalls. The constantly recurring build -p of new snow and the unique terrain create an Eldorado for fans of deep powder snow. 200 km of deep powder snow runs and 305 km of pistes guarantee you won't get bored. You don't have to queue for the lifts and cable cars and the ski pass will be given to you when you have breakfast in your hotel. That means you won't lose a second and can enjoy the skiing area to its fullest. In order to relax and recharge your batteries there are numerous excellent restaurants and huts in the ski area.
The future belongs to those with vision
The people of Zürs deliberately took care to ensure their forefathers' legacy was preserved and so even more modern lifts and comfortable hotels were built. Today the lifts are equipped with heated seats and bubble enclosures, so even in challenging weather you can keep on enjoying your skiing. With 16 hotels and guest houses, of which half are in the 4 and 5 star categories, the alpine settlement has become a compact little village, which repeatedly stands out from the crowd with its innovations. Examples are:
- the free bus system which links Zürs with Lech and the St. Anton ski area
- the central biomass heating plant which was completed in 2010
- Zürs.net – a free wireless service, for which you only have to log in once to be able to use the Internet anywhere in Zürs and the surrounding ski area.

After sheer enjoyment in the powder snow there are epicurean delights on the menu in the evenings. The chefs are true masters of their profession and conjure up exciting new creations for you to enjoy –traditional dishes are prepared to astounding perfection. All routes in Zürs are short and each one offers the inviting prospect of discovering another cuisine, another wine list or another cosy bar. Anyone who is still in the mood after a wonderful day on the slopes and a heavenly meal can throw themselves confidently into the night life. Top class bars and clubs also draw guests from the surrounding villages.
